A family relative just traded his XJ for one, and it just so happened to be a First Edition Model.
I was really unimpressed. Yes, it’s nice to look at, but there were a few things that were major letdowns.
1. Material Quality - Yes, it has some good touches (alcantara headliner, quality leather, etc), but this this has a lot of hard plastics. The door panels and dashboard had several areas of incredibly hard plastics - stuff you’d find in a car around $20,000.
2. Power - It didn’t feel that fast. Yes, reviews point at a 0-60 in the mid 5's, but I don’t believe that. It felt super heavy off the line, then power kicks in at around 50mph.
Otherwise, I liked it. With that being said, interior quality would be a non-negotiable for me at a $70,000 price point.

wait hold the phone... do you literally mean “traded in?” and was this an XJ Cherokee or the Jaguar XJ? I clearly read it as the former and thought that would be the worst trade-in vs private sale decision ever.

Counterpoint: hard plastics are good, quit rubbing your face on panels not meant for it.

Certainly does look good.

Sounds about right. I found more hard plastic in an F-Pace than I did in a new Malibu 0.0

Well that’s a bummer.. I was hoping Jaguar was making another vehicle that could be held in the same regard as the F-Type.

I’ll counter that...I’d bet your opinion would be different after having your knee rest on this hunk of plastic for more than 20 minutes.

Let me correct myself - he actually turned in his leased 2014 XJ for this.

Why would I put my knee there at all? Sounds more like an ergonomic issue than a material one.
sm70- why not Duesenberg?

This sums up my thoughts exactly. It has some really great things going for it, but that interior is a complete deal-breaker.

It’s weird that you bring up hard plastics, as I got the opportunity to explore the interior of one, and the dashtop and upper door panels were all a combination of soft touch and nicely stitched materials. All the touchpoints that you would commonly come into contact with were actually quite nice. The cupholder and pocket in each front door was a hard plastic with a light coating on it, but I feel that makes sense as it will be subject to abuse from boots and whatnot and you wouldn’t normally be touching the plastic down there anyways.
